To Be A Desi Girl

Posted in

A desi girl is very unlike Priyanka Chopra in Dostana.  She doesn’t shimmy her tiny waist in a diaphanous sari or wear tiny clothes to work.  If she dares to, she knows she will cause a riot.  Instead you will find her in the Metro, assuring her child she’ll be home soon.... as the hard-as-balls executive that everyone is petrified of.... the pampered girl who dreams of Virat Kohli in her dad’s sedan.... the grim looking woman who cycles to work every morning to support her alcoholic husband.  It’s tough to typify a Desi Girl.

Away from television and newspaper my recent vacation was a refreshing break. Once back, there was this urge to find how the world had changed. Surprisingly nothing changed. Cannes continues to be in the news, Kalmadi continues to be in jail and the Sensex continues to hover around the same digit. The only new development has been the entry of two new members, Anne Sinclair, wife of ex-IMF Chief and Maria Shriver, wife of Terminator to the long list of CWWA (Celebrity Wronged Wives Association)

Oh No, Not Another Post On Love...

February is the month of love. Hallmark says so and so do all the jewellery brands. In fact I can almost hear them chanting in unison “If you liked it then you should have put a ring on it woho o o o o”. If only they could all groove like Beyonce! Anything that you purchase this month is for the sake of love and it better be expensive or else...

The Common Man's View of the Ayodhya Verdict

On Sep 30, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court had given its verdict on the title suit of the long pending legal dispute over a piece of land in Ayodhya, based on “unverified and unsubstantiated reference to the faith and belief of the Hindus”.
The verdict ran into thousands of pages and from all accounts, the same is sans of any passing mention of the vandalism that happened on 06 Dec 1992. Neither is there any reference to the death and the obliteration it left in its trail, nor any word of empathy for the victims.
