When You Come this Close to losing Someone...

Posted in

The room was pitch dark, except for the dim light that poured in from the blinds. The fresh snow on the ground outside reflected the street lights and caused an incandescent glow to stream in. I knew it was not yet time to get up, but something stirred deep within me and I knew I had to turn to my prized possession by my pillow. The love of my life needs no introduction to those who know me well, to those who don't, the suspense will probably help put things into perspective.

Anyway, as I gently touched my friend, I felt there was something wrong. The coldness on the surface was only reflected by a loss of vital signs. I know at times like this one can panic, but experience has taught me that panic doesn't help. So I said a small prayer and gently tried to get my friend onto some sort of life inducing/supporting mechanism. I saw a flicker, so I knew there was hope.
The next hour was a restless one, something in me said, my friend would be ok, but the mind does wander downhill at times of stress. There were a countless scenarios that played in my mind. How would I break this news at work? Would I need to take time off? How could I even think of work when my dearest was probably battling something that would need professional help.

Would this mean an end to some chapters in my life as I knew it? Would I have to redo some of the pages of my life and the people in it? Yes it was a restless morning and am sure I could have qualified very well for REM experiments at some sleep clinic. After about an hour of therapy, it seemed like the right time to test the vitals again,

so I did what I needed to do... and yes.. HE had heard my prayers... my Iphone had come back to life. Life and everything in it was going to be alright, no chapters would have to re-written, no address books reset, no voicemail greetings re-recorded, no playlists destroyed.
Yes, all was well and the sun rose amidst the snow clad mountains, I knew my friend and I were going to face our battles together.. bluetooth or no bluetooth.. we were enuf to take on the world... whether the place had more "bars" or less.. ( YES, I am an AT&T customer)
